Fostering HOPE for Youth

ROH’s target youth populations include those who are 3-18 years of age. Youth referred to the program have suffered trauma and exhibit emotional and/or behavioral issues. ROH collaborates with Social Service agencies and local public schools including: Ventura County Social Services & Probation Dept, Oxnard Juvenile Detention Center, City Impact, Legacy Alternative High School, Boys and Girls Clubs, Oxnard and Ventura Unified School Districts and victims of child trafficking. In addition, we work together with school counselors, parents, and social workers to provide free mental health solutions for adolescents.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, “Approximately one out of five adolescents has a diagnosable mental health disorder, and nearly one third show symptoms of depression.” Further, they state that access is also a problem with less than half of the adolescents with psychiatric disorders receiving any kind of treatment in the past year. In addition, initial diagnosis is also challenging, with issues often first identified at school. From a survey administered by The Center in 2020, “Among high school students (grades 9-12), 22% female and 12% male students reported suicidal thoughts, attempts, and related injuries. Even more alarming is that 39% female high school students report that they felt sad or hopeless.” These numbers continue to rise as the pandemic continues.

Please join ROH in fighting these statistics.
